Pat Hennessey Gravesite

Pat Hennessy, the Irish immigrant freighter for whom the town was named, died near this gravesite during the Buffalo War of 1874.

His massacre resulted in the arrival of additional Federal troops in Indian Territory and the final dispersal of Indian land.

His death opened the way for white settlement in the Land Run of 1889 and a new era in Native American-Anglo relationships.
